Knights versus Chivalry

Though supposedly synonymous, Chivalry was more of a romantic notion stemming from courtly literature of the Age dealing with ethics and love, whereas Knighthood, which was a political motivator driven by land ownership, title, conquests and war, had to do with service to country and church for the sake of advancement and prestige.

Both points of view of the Medieval Age are welcome here. It is a vast Age that spans close to 700 years. From the end of the Dark Ages up to the burgeoning Renaissance, including the Renaissance's interpretation and take on the medieval.
Including the legends of the era; Arthur, Robin of Locksley, George and the Dragon, crusades,
