This group is for the display of photos, drawings, and paintings of value to botany, the scientific study of plants. To qualify as a botanical illustration, the image must show, in detail, structures of the plant(s) depicted, or show the plants in typical habitats. Ideally, it also gives a sense of scale (ruler, pen, person in the image so that one can see how big the plant is), but this is entirely optional. A great botanical illustration is also artistic in itself, and appealing to the non-botanist. Fungi, algae, and other organisms traditionally included in plant science, but which are no longer considered to be in the plant kingdom, are acceptable. Images of insects or other animals, shown in the act of interacting with a recognizable plant species, are acceptable. Scientific names of organisms depicted should be included in your image descriptions. If you are not sure what they are, feel free to post the image(s) anyway and perhaps a group member can help you identify them.
