To the viewer, silhouettes often convey drama, sentiment, humor or mystery. For an effective result, the subject of the photograph is placed in front of a light source, often the sun, which darkens the subject considerably or blackens it out altogether. By doing so, an element of boldness and vagueness is produced, which in turn creates an aspect of drama and mystery for the onlooker.
