Not quite "black and white", toned photos have enjoyed a long tradition in creative photography especially prior to the advent of color photography. The common toned-photo types are: sepia, cyanotype, silver gelatin, platinum, kallitype, van Dyck, palladium, and silver. The toning of photos is of course possible to achieve in the digial darkroom as well, and is a popular creative outlet for contemporary digital artists.
