Running along the Puna Coast from Kaimu to Pohoiki there was a one lane road made from the only rock available...red cinder from our local volcano. It was called by all "the red road". It was often startling to see the contrasting red weave through the dense tropical forest with the blues of the ocean and sky always present. Paved over and widened it is still referred to as the red road. These drawings represent years of a love affair.
